As part of the Western Montana Native Plant Initiative, the Missoula Conservation District will host a short, public workshop on the benefits of landscaping with native plants, whether starting from scratch or converting part of an existing lawn or flower bed. These benefits include:

  • reduced pesticide and fertilizer use
  • pollinator habitat creation
  • reduced watering
  • eliminating the need for mowing
  • improving soil health
  • creating an aesthetically pleasing environment.

This micro-workshop will recap principles presented by the Missoula County Department of Ecology and Extension at their ReWild Your Yard Workshop held on May 3rd. The Benefits of Native Plant Landscaping Micro-Workshop on May 31st will include both a presentation and planting demonstration, including recommendations on how to protect your plants from deer and other browsers.

As a bonus, selected participants who demonstrate site readiness and agree to follow up monitoring will be eligible to take home a native plant pack containing starts for forbs/wildflowers and grasses to begin their own native landscape.
